Crochet Doily Pattern

Old Fashioned, and Beautiful

Crochet doily pattern...First thing which comes to my mind when I see a crocheted doily is a vision of those numerous doilies in a grandma's house. She kept them everywhere: on the tables, armchairs, sofas, each flower stand had them.

Together with her kindness and special pies which she baked for us, they created that unforgettable spirit of the coziness which still warms me through the years.

Meanwhile, new times change.  No longer do we think that doilies are required for table and furniture coverings.  That Victorian or vintage look has never returned.  Or has it?

But similar to the mythical phoenix bird, they come back again and again. What is it? Is it nostalgia of those who remember grandmas' pies?

Even pretty experienced knitters/crocheters who know "everything" about their favorite hobby discover new doily patterns all the time. Good news is, the art of creating new  doily patterns is still alive. Better news is, it is not going to die soon.

This page is a collection of those nostalgic old-fashioned doilies and those which were created recently by the remarkable masters whose inspiration keeps this old art alive.

Doilies which can be found in the table below, have different shapes, but for all of them crocheting in rounds technique was used.

Each pattern has a chart made in crochet symbols. Check a Crochet in rounds page for detail explanation how to read crochet symbol patterns.

A chart is given for 1/4 of a doily. Repeat chart 4 times to make a doily. To begin a doily make a ring (see explanation on the chart).

Detail explanation for this crochet doily pattern can be found at Crochet in rounds page. A square shape of the doily brings a lot of variants to use this design for some big projects: pillowcases, cover, tablecloth, etc. Click for chart.
